Peasants, brace yourselves - edible metals and The Glamburger not for you

We had a pleasant surprise in the office not so long ago. My boss brought very tasty sweets called Kaju Katli. It is a cashew fudge decorated with edible silver.

It was delicious and reminded me a bit marzipan candies. Anyway this got my attention and I started to think about other foods covered with edible metals or the ones that contain it... Because nothing sounds better then shitting silver bar the next day (so glamorous). I also turned to google in search of vark style sweets. Yeah, learned new word - vark (or warq). Vark is any foil composed of a pure metal, typically silver, sometimes gold, used for garnishing sweets in South Asian cuisine.

What other options would I have if I decide to eat something different? Well let me introduce to you this short list of products below.
  • Golden Vodka

There is many different vodkas on the market like this one. Basically those are floating gold leafs inside the bottle. There is no taste as they are tasteless unless special flavouring is added. In Poland we have polish vodka of Gdansk city called Danziger Goldwasser (below)

or this liquer with silver flakes from Holland made by Bols.

or this Luxor Pure Gold Champagne from France.

  • This 24 carrot cake from instructables.com

Now that looks yummy. I am a fan of carrot cakes (such carrot, wow) it feels so much better to eat sweets and be guilty free from eating one of the five portions of veggies per day right? Hehehe.

  • The Glamburger - ridiculously expensive gold flaked burger

280 grams of Kobe Wagyu beef seasoned with smoked Himalayan salt. Beluga caviar, duck egg, black truffle brie, lobster with saffron and maple syrup coating beacon. Additional seasoning is a Japanese matcha and a mayonnaise. More here

  • The Sultan’s Golden Cake from Ciragan Palace Kempinski Hotel in Istanbul
This is made to order and takes three days to prepare. Contains French Polynesian vanilla, caramelised black truffles and a coating of 24-karat edible gold flakes.
