Poland has a day when eating sweets is obligatory

Have you ever dreamed about a day when eating sweets is obligatory? Well dream no more! In Poland we have a whole day dedicated to donuts, This day is called 'TŁUSTY CZWARTEK' that means FAT THURSDAY and is a tradition in Poland. Now it is too late, it has already passed. In was in February. You need to wait till next year to enjoy it.

On this day that is the last Thursday prior to Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent eating PĄCZKI (doughnuts) is mandatory. The more you eat the more happy you will be through the whole year.

Pączki are deep-fried pieces of dough shaped into flattened spheres. They are filled with jam (traditional - rose) or other sweet filling. Pączki are usually covered with powdered sugar, icing or bits of dried orange zest.

Apart from pączki, polish people also eat FAWORKI (also called Chrust depending on the region, or called Angel wings)

Faworki are a deep fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. The recipe is super easy and the taste is sooo good.
