WARSAW: Why the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier looks like it is under construction?

Do you know why the Warsaw's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier looks like it is under construction?
Many of you visit this place wondering why it was left like that.


This was in fact a part of a palace. Saxon Palace to be exact. Now the monument is the only surviving part of the Saxon Palace that occupied the spot until World War II



Notice the arcades at the back of the monument below. And on the picture above, the yellow part. The remaining ruins serve now as the Tomb of the Unknown soldier monument.



Nowadays a Representative Battalion of the Polish Army stands by the Tomb and the change of guards takes place on the hour of every our. This happens 365 days a year. There is also an eternal flame there.
